Dr. Aminu Maida, joins IIC to shape the future of global telecom sector
Dr. Aminu Maida, Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), recently joined the Board of Directors for the International Institute of Communications (IIC), this is a giant strides for Nigeria’s telecommunications sector.
The IIC, brings together leaders in telecommunications, media, and technology (TMT) to foster collaboration on regulatory frameworks, emerging technologies, and sustainable development. His appointment marks a landmark achievement for Nigeria, amplifying its voice in shaping the future of the global telecom sector.
Dr. Maida’s started his key roles in British Telecom, Cisco Systems, and EE Ltd. He was instrumental in groundbreaking advancements in small-cell technology during his tenure at UbiquiSys Ltd, which was later acquired by Cisco in 2013.His contributions in Nigeria are equally remarkable,as the Executive Director of Technology and Operations at the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement Systems PLC (NIBSS), he transformed the country’s digital payments infrastructu
The NCC Boss, is known for taking bold steps, including the launch of the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy (NDEPS) and the expansion of broadband penetration to over 50%. His strategic focus on infrastructure development and regulatory clarity has attracted billions of dollars in investment, strengthening Nigeria’s position as Africa’s largest telecoms market.
His appointment connotes Nigeria’s readiness to lead conversations on emerging technologies such as 5G, artificial intelligence, and digital inclusion.
