UN mandates every nation to conduct census every 10 years – Sen. Ningi

The government have been called to conduct population census every 10 years. This was made known by Senator Abdul Ningi while speaking with the media recently at the National Assembly, Abuja.

Sen. Abdul Ningi is the Chairman Senate Committee on National population commission and (PDP Bauchi Central). According to him, “Nigeria had last population census in 2006 while the United Nations mandates every nation to have a population census at least every 10 years.”
He referred to the data that are being sent to the public as “guesswork”.
Noting that the National Population Commission had been saddled with preparation of conducting census before 2023 elections.

He however, disclosed to the committee that NPC would appear again with its documentation on how much they need to conduct 2024 population census.

According to senator Ningi, there is need to go into bilateral relations with other countries and corporate bodies in view of ensuring that census is conducted in 2024.
