NAWOJ/NTA: Sets to Curb Gender Based Violence in the society

The Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) in Conjunction with the National Association of Women journalist (NAWOJ), organized a one day sensitization training for female Journalist in NTA on Gender Based Violence recently in Abuja

The event convened speakers from all spheres of human endeavours: including seasoned journalists like Mrs.Ene Edu, the Director of News in NTA, Comrade Ladi Bala, President Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Dr.Tunde Ojo and a host of others.
In her opening remarks,  Comrade Ladi Bala, NAWOJ President, urged Journalists to identify sources of information on Gender Based Violence, and report to the appropriate authority to enable the victim get justice.

Delivering the Goodwill message, the Director of News and GM NTA 24, charged  journalists not to rest on their Oasis until the perpetuators of gender based crimes are brought to book.

Contributing, Mrs.Ene Edu, highlighted that gender based violence can be both political and economical weapons used to perpetual the act.

Buttressing on 35% affirmative action, she lamented that only three slots were allocated to women out of the fifty Ministerial position of the Federal Executive  Council. She advised that women should also be included in the management of the government agencies and parastatals.

Mrs.Bassey Ita Ikpang, the co-convener, reiterated that journalists should report the facts, exposed the perpetrators to the public and ensure that the victims get justice.

Also, the founder, She Forum Africa, Mrs Inimfon Etuk, urged reporters of gender based violence to use appropriate language during their reportage and not to criminalize the victims with their choice of language.
