In boosting Accountancy expertise and value delivery, Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) is committed to building Research Centres across the Nigerian nation.
This was expressed by the President, Rev. Canon Prof. Emeritus Benjamin Chuka Osisioma during an interview at the Association’s National Headquarters in Abuja on the heels of the establishment of an Accountancy Research Centre in Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Anambra State.
Prof. Emeritus Osisioma is a retired Professor of Accounting, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Anambra (UNIZIK), a Reverend Canon in the Anglican Church and 12th President of ANAN.
Under his leadership, Prof. Osisioma has restructured and upscaled the Association’s operations.
ANAN Research Centre in Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Anambra State is in addition to the existing Centres in Kogi State University, Nasarawa State University, Lafia town, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto, University of Jos, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta and Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
For operational efficiency, the President said the Centres are equipped with requisite financial and human resources to carry out research, organize seminars, workshops, write journals and produce books.
In leveraging professional collaboration for productive engagement, Prof. Osisioma said ANAN is partnering government agencies.
According to him, ANAN is partnering federal agencies like the Nigerian National Petroleum Commission (NNPC), Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) to establish permanent structures at the Nigerian College of Accountancy (NCA) and ANAN University in Plateau State in expanding the professional competency of their operations.
The President further said ANAN utilization of digital tools as a vibrant Professional Accounting Organization has impacted in the design of a Digital Hub for the centralization and operationalization of its activities under a harmonized digital framework.
ANAN Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Kayode Olushola Fasua in his remarks averred that the Association is efficiently deploying Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in its operations at the Abuja Headquarters and the College in Plateau State.
He noted that ICT as an enabler of processes and activities drives operations at the College from advertisement to sales of forms, admission, delivery of lectures and conduct of examinations.
The CEO further called for more governmental support for the Association noting that ANAN as a professional organization is responsibly committed to providing services aimed at societal good.
ANAN was established in 1979 as a Professional Accounting Organization. In 1983, it was registered under the Land Perpetual Succession Act as a non-profit organization in Nigeria.
In 1993, the Body became chartered by Decree 76 CAP A26 LFN 2004.
ANAN charter gives it statutory backing to be self-regulatory, prescribe standards and uphold them.
The Association’s social contract is commitment to public good.
