The youths have been charged to engage in agriculture to enhance the economic development of the country. Alfred Papapreye Diete-Spiff said this in an interview with Journalist recently in Abuja.
Alfred Papapreye Diete-Spiff is the first Military Governor of old Rivers and former Chairman, Bayelsa State Council of Traditional Rulers, and the Amanayanbo of Twon Brass.
According to him, “there are many job opportunities in agriculture. These includes: mushroom growing, coconut oil production, mango, hibiscus, Neem and many more.”
He stressed that mushroom growing is a lucrative business in China and Malaysia and that the youth can borrow a leaf from them.
He also said that Central Bank of Nigeria gives loans to mushroom growers in Nigeria. And to facilitate that, “National Mushroom Marketers/Growers Association”, is the right association to join for more information.
He maintained that agribusiness especially cash crops is another gateway for job opportunities and Nigerians can take advantage of this avenue by being trained.

“Mushroom Institute train people on mushroom growing and production in Nigeria. Get registered and trained on how to harvest bags of mushroom on a daily basis.
In 1979 to 1999 China started household responsibility scheme on mushroom growing. The country has been at the forefront in this regards. This has created jobs for their teaming youths reducing unemployment in the country.
Malaysia also produces mushroom as big as loaves of bread. They produce and export to different countries.
I am encouraging Nigerian youths to get involved and be trained. In so doing, they create jobs for themselves and become employers of labour.” King Alfred said.
