FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SHOULD PROVIDES RENEWABLE ENERGY FOR RURAL PEOPLE — MABEL EMMANUEL

The Federal Ministry of Environment Celebrates , the World Desertification and Drought Day 2022( WDDD). The event took place at the Obasanjo Space Centre ( NASRDA) Abuja. The theme: of this Celebration is ” Rising From Drought Together.”

While speaking at the occasion, the Director Desertification, Land Degradation and Drought Management Madam Mabel Emmanuel, expressed satisfaction for the success of this year event. She used the privilege to urged the Federal Government to provide renewable Energy to Rural people as the gateway to mitigate the the incessant cases of deforestation.

Ms. Mabel, described the cases of Drought and Desertification in the Northern part of the Country as worrisome . She said , although action plan was in place to curb the effects but greater Crusade is needed to sensitize the people. She urged the people in such area to take the advantage of Water Harvest .

The UNCCD Focal person , advised the Citizens to take the issues of Afforestation seriously with urgency of purpose in order to make our environment Green and habitable for humanity. “Environment should be protected by all means , we should discourage deforestation at all levels by all means , because the dangers is very harmful to humanity, she added “.

Ms Mabel , the Environmental expert says , the vision and Mandate of her department is to rehabilitate and restore degraded landscapes to facilitate increase to productive natural resources and sustainable ecosystem services. The Prevention and control of Desert Encroachment, reclamation and restoration of degraded lands as well as the conservation of Natural resources in the Country’s drylands with effective management.

Friday GreenLand News gathered that, the Department of Desertification, Land Degradation and Drought Management is in collaboration with other Countries and International organization to Combating and mitigating the effects of Desertification and Drought in Nigeria.
