Petty Offenses Project is described as a project that offers free legal services to prison inmates that committed petty offenses. Hon. Barr. Rommy Mom said this at a media chat with the GreenLand News yesterday in Abuja.
Hon. Barr. Rommy Mom who is the Honourable Commissioner Representing Human Right (North Central) Police Service Commission, is also the President of Lawyer Alert in Nigeria; a justice sector Nigerian NGO into Civic/human rights education, right based governance and monitoring and documentation of human rights violations.
According to him, “petty Offense Project is a project that offers free legal services to prison inmates that committed petty offenses.”
Hon. Rommy maintained that some prison inmates who do not have lawyers are been assisted with free legal services through Petty Offense Project.
He also said that some of these offenses may include: Hawking, commercial sex workers, road side vulcanizers, street trading and many more.
He advised the government to focus on national development; providing enabling environment for the citizen. This and many more will go a long way in reducing petty offenses and prison conjection.

In the same vein, Hon. Rommy use the opportunity to encourage women to speak out and let their voices be heard. According to him, 2023 Election is fast approaching and women should take advantage of 35% Affirmative action that have been signed by the government and participate in different political positions.
According to him, “ Advocacy and public enlightenment should be carried out to educate woman on the importance of their participation in governance.”
In his words:
“Women who choose to run for the 2023 Presidential position have been giving the opportunity to pay at least 10 percent of the required amount to purchase the form. This will encourage them to have equal participation. “
In a related development, Hon. Rommy also said ASUU had an agreement with the Federal Government since 2009; he urged ASUU to strike a balance with the government to enable students go back to school.
