The Youths are advised to go for Career Counseling to enable them choose suitable profession they are passionate for.
Prof. James Eke made this known in a Media chat with the GreenLand News online Media Team recently in Abuja.
Prof. James Eke who is a Professor of Electrical Electronic Engineering Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) Enugu, is also the National Chairman of Committee of Deans of Engineering and Technology in Nigerian Universities.
He charged parents to allow their wards to make personal decisions regarding their dream profession; this will enable them achieve their feat and give back to the Society. Parents are however expected to be good advisers to their children and join hands with the Career advisers”
Prof. Eke was attending the first biennial meeting of Committee of Deans of Engineering and Technology in Nigerian Universities held in Nile University Abuja.
In his words:
“We often have two meetings in a year. Firstly, it is usually in University in the month of February. Secondly, in COREN office during the COREN Assembly in August.”
According to him, “CODET” being field workers of COREN is the Committee of Deans in the Universities. “CODET collaborates with Industries like Manufactures Association of Nigeria (MAN). There is this synergy between MAN and the Universities where they interaction with lecturers and exchange ideas. We have gone to Kaduna, Lagos and is still ongoing.”
Buttressing on hands-on training and Entrepreneurship, Prof Eke said, “there is a pronouncement by the Federal Government that Companies that are carrying out Federal jobs should ensure that Engineering Students are part of the work. For instance, if there is ongoing road project along Lokoja road, nearby Universities should be involved so that the students learn practical aspect.
He added that Enugu State Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), have openings for Electrical Electronics Students who will be trained to widen their horizon.
Prof. Eke who advised Engineers in Nigeria to register with COREN also said building collapse in the country is caused by quacks who are business men and women and are not professionals. He urged the members of the public to engage professional Engineers who are registered with COREN.
